Dr. Jeannette Marie Lewis is a spirited flutist and teacher based in Washington, DC. Her dedication to reaching diverse audiences through creative programming has taken her to venues including the Kennedy Center, Strathmore, Gotham Hall, National Gallery of Art, and Capital One Hall.
As a freelance orchestral musician, Jeannette is the Principal Flutist with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra (PA). In addition, she has performed with the New World, Inscape Chamber, Cayuga Chamber, Catskill Symphony, Maryland Symphony, and York Symphony orchestras, and she holds substitute positions with orchestras across the East Coast. Jeannette has been a prizewinner, finalist, or presenter in competitions held by The American Prize, National Flute Association, U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," New Jersey Flute Society, and the Flute Society of Washington.
​With over a decade of teaching experience, Jeannette currently serves as a Conductor and Teaching Artist with the DC Youth Orchestra Program, working with the Wind Ensemble, Repertory Orchestra, and Level A Flute sections. Jeannette has held faculty positions at Ithaca College, Ithaca College Summer Music Academy, University of Maryland (College Park), Maryland Classics Youth Orchestra, and her family-owned music store, Lewis Music. She also maintains a private flute studio.
Jeannette currently serves as Artistic Administrator at
The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, where she works closely with the National Orchestral Institute + Festival. She previously held administrative positions with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra Youth Orchestra, and Sound Mind, a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating a culture of mental wellness in the classical music field.
​Jeannette completed her DMA at the University of Maryland, College Park, and her MM in Flute Performance and BM in Music Education at Ithaca College. Her primary teachers include Sarah Frisof, Wendy Mehne, Rebecca Gilbert, and Joyce Catalfano. She loves spicy food, reality TV, bubble tea, and passing dogs on walks.
